CLIFF TOP WALK
For coastal drama, flora and fauna and shear wilderness qualities, walking the Heysen Trail to the immediate west of the Retreat is on a par with any walk in Australasia. This walk goes for miles – you can hike all day or simply take a leisurely walk.
SWIM IN THE ABORIGINAL FISH TRAP
The stone walled pool on Kings Beach (immediately below the Retreats) was used as a fish trap by the ancestors of the Aboriginal people of the area. This is a beautiful and protected place to swim, snorkel, watch the sun come up, practice yoga or Tai Chi – whatever suits you! West Island and the Bluff are spectacular backdrops to Kings Beach.
BIG DUCK TOURS
The Big Duck Boat Tour operates from Victor Harbor and provides you with an ocean adventure experience. Explore inaccessible areas of coastline and islands in a 7x3m expedition-style rigid inflatable boat (RIB). Spot seals, dolphins, seabirds and whales (in season) in their natural environment. Small group sizes are guaranteed (maximum 10 passengers) and spray jackets and lifejackets are provided.
VISIT THE LOCAL FARMERS MARKET
The market takes place every Saturday morning on the Reserve opposite the main Woolworths shopping centre in central Victor Harbor. Stock up with local specialities for a lazy lunch in the enclosed courtyard in your retreat or picnic on Kings Beach or while hiking along the Heysen Trail. The more distant Willunga Farmers Market is also held every Saturday morning at Willunga in the heart of this wine and produce region.
WALK TO THE BLUFF FOR BREAKFAST OR LUNCH
Many people enjoy the 40 minute walk to the Bluff and then reward themselves with breakfast, lunch or just a coffee or drink at Whalers Inn where they can relax on the deck overlooking Encounter Bay, Granite Island and the town of Victor.
VEG OUT VICTOR supplies fresh fruit and vegetables and other local produce and is open seven days a week.
Highly experienced Bill Brockschmidt is located only 10 minutes away. You can make an appointment on 0448884188.
The Victor Harbor Golf Club has great ocean views, a wonderful natural setting on Yankalilla Road. Phone 85522030 for information and tee time availability.
DAY TRIPS TO THE LANGHORNE CREEK OR MACLAREN VALE WINERIES
Both these regions showcase excellent regional wines and local produce. There are many fantastic restaurants and fine arts and crafts shops.
